As you say for the mother there is the whole history of the pregnancy that the child experiences but does not remember. Then there is the casual remark, the social shorthand of the phrase, which the child may internalise.
Words have such power. More, at times, than we credit them with.
How is your little one doing? Is she sleeping? My first slept for 7-9 hours straight- the second one barely 4. But they are amazing.
My youngest- all of 23 now is back for the weekend, and I'm just back from a festival. I'm looking forward to catching up with her this evening.Paul Tobinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14732771806819029077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5387667238687975467.post-58634827664373230632015-08-01T14:29:32.107+01:002015-08-01T14:29:32.107+01:00Hi Carol. I have a brother-in-law who has a similar response. it's a difficult one, on one level it's a figure of speech, on another, to the ear of the child it conjures other emotions. As I say it was not until recently that I could begin to unpack the whole memory.Paul Tobinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14732771806819029077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5387667238687975467.post-81819713496856502182015-07-31T15:11:31.189+01:002015-07-31T15:11:31.189+01:00Hmmm, I guess I probably should never say that to ...Hmmm, I guess I probably should never say that to my little one! I had a very difficult pregnancy and had some really close calls. My little one absolutely loves her father dearly and favors him. We both think it's likely b/c he refuses to do the disciplining! Sometimes I will tell my husband how "hey I almost died for this kid," I can at least receive a kiss and hug from her when Daddy's around! She isn't old enough to understand but I should probably be very careful when saying such things. You've given me a different perspective!msmariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15486729990673366769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5387667238687975467.post-55342401118580720162015-07-31T11:49:15.078+01:002015-07-31T11:49:15.078+01:00I was told similar by my mother, and I share your ...I was told similar by my mother, and I share your very mixed emotions.Carol Hedgeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10359578624109905400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5387667238687975467.post-8837213415832806122015-07-31T10:16:27.747+01:002015-07-31T10:16:27.747+01:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Steve Finnellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12863026367048527526noreply@blogger.com
